When you plan and prepare carefully, you can legitimately expect to have success in your efforts.

When you recognize and develop the winning qualities that you were born with, the winner you were born to be emerges.

When you plan and prepare to make a sale, for example, you can legitimately expect to make a sale.

Although not all your expectations are going to come to pass, you give yourself an infinitely better chance of succeeding by taking the proper steps.

Regardless of your goal--losing weight, making more sales, furthering your education, earning a promotion, saving money for a new home or an exotic vacation--you can expect to achieve your goal if you plan and prepare for it.

Also understand that the path from where you are to where you want to be is not always smooth and straight. The reason for the twists and bumps is simple, and it has nothing to do with you. It has more to do with the fact that not everyone is as interested in your success as you are. Some people may accidentally hinder your efforts; others who are in competition with you and have little or no integrity may try to sabotage your efforts.

Keep in mind, though, that when you hit those roadblocks your character, commitment, and attitude are the determining factors in your success.

Carefully review your plan of action, seek wise counsel, and be particularly careful to feed your mind good information. An optimistic, positive mind is far more likely to come up with creative solutions than a mind that dwells on setbacks and difficulties.

Bottom line: expect success and you can achieve it!

The idea of making *more* money is appealing to *most* everyone.

For the person who doesn't make much, *more* is a necessity.

To the person that does OK, *more* helps them get ahead, and for the rare person that has a bunch, they are always looking for a way to make a bunch *more.*

So when it comes to actually taking action to create more, I believe that less is more.

I used to think the only way to increase my income was to work more hours, more paperwork, more commitments, borrow more money, lose more sleep, and ultimately take more risk.

Then I realized that *less* is indeed *more.*

Owning and operating your own business presents a legitimate method to make more money, but without the headaches and hassles. The ease and convenience of the Internet has created an opportunity anyone can enjoy success with.

However, the choice is ultimately yours.

Those were all headlines in my Inbox this week.

Here's MY secret...

Roll up your sleeves and get ready to work, because the secret is this: If you think you are going to make a dime selling online without hard work and determination, you are dreaming.

I have been doing this for years and I've put in more hours every day than ever I did with my "real job."

Don't let the shysters suck you in by painting a slick picture of an expensive automobile, or by trying to sell you the idea that you will be logging-in for just 10 minutes a day while you sit at the side of your pool, sipping cocktails.

Phooey. For most of us, that will never happen.

Go into Internet marketing with your eyes wide open -- question everything. Don't believe anything unless you can satisfy yourself that it works.

Question everything -- you might just find, after a few months, that you still have a few bucks in the bank and a credit card balance that doesn't embarrass you.

I am telling you bluntly that for every marketer online who is straight, and trying to make an honest living, there are 100 more who only want your money - they don't give a damn about your problems, needs or budget.

I have been burned so many times online that I am ashamed to let anyone know how dumb I was - I'd rather not mention how many times I found myself falling for sites that manipulated our emotions to make sales.

I was a real patsy, but I got learned fast. (My bank manager insisted.)

We are all looking for an easier life, but few of us will ever find it. They'll more likely find themselves further in debt, if they aren't very careful.

Break Free from the rat race

It's true.

Home businesses are altering the lives of hundreds of people --- for life. I believe you deserve to know more about how the same can occur for you.

It's been my experience that most people don't live the life they want to live because they haven't got the time, or they haven't got the money. Whether they're scratching out a living or earning a substantial income that eats up too much time, people are struggling all over the world. It's because they've never learned how to earn real money. No one's ever taught them.

Earning money really isn't about earning money at all!

It's about breaking out of a programmed cycle first; it's about freeing yourself from misconceptions, misperceptions, old belief systems and plain old trash you have in your head about accumulating and possessing financial abundance.

When people aren't enjoying the abundance they think they deserve, they usually blame outside circumstances. Granted, it may have been the circumstance that put you there initially, but it's your mind that locked down the chains.

The fact is, most of us are trapped. And somebody's got to break the cycle. Whether we're talking about the third world and someone who's earning $60 a month, or we're talking about America where somebody's stuck in a $30,000 job or a $150,000 job ... they're all trapped just the same.

People who live in abundance have simple, multiple sources of income that require very little time or capital and can be put in place easily outside of their primary job.

There are really just Three Steps to a better life:

1. Mindset first.
2. A Network of like-minded people supporting you.
3. And Multiple Sources of Income.

All the people you seek, all the resources you lack, all the framework you're missing .. it's all right here.

1. Don't worry about improving your image. Improve your substance. The world is starved for substance. Most people are working on image. Few work to improve substance. Those who do will stand head and shoulders above the rest.

2. Fail fast. Drop losing projects immediately. After trying to find a solution to a marketing problem that simply didn't exist, Gary Halbert wrote three words on the white board that most of us were thinking in our heads: DROP THIS PROJECT! It's not easy to let go of things we're emotionally attached to, but it's necessary to move on.

3. Most people are self-absorbed. Appeal to their selfish side. Forget your point of view. It doesn't matter. If you want to sell Johnny Jones what Johnny Jones buys you MUST see Johnny Jones through Johnny Jones eyes. What does he want more than anything?

4. If I found the cure for AIDS, everyone would get it. How much money I make would not be an issue. When you discover something important enough, the goal is to make sure everyone who wants or needs it can get it. Shift attention from how much can you make to how many people can you help. The money will come.

5. NOTHING is risk-free. LIFE is not risk-free. You're a heartbeat away from a Christopher Reeve moment. If you can't accept risk, you are living on the wrong planet. What risk can you take that might alter the quality of life as you know it?

6. Hire experts. Don't try to do everything yourself. Especially when it comes to the most important parts, including copyrighting and crafting your sales message. Don't spend a fortune on the unimportant things, then economize on the pivotal items. Know when to bring in the experts.

7. Outspend the other guys. Many businesses do thing on the cheap. Shoestringing and bootstrapping are successful strategies when money is tight. When money is there, spend it. A business campaign can rise or fall based on the money behind it. Don't hesitate to invest money, especially on the important things. If you don't have it, find someone who does and share the bounty. 100% of nothing is still nothing!

8. You don't want to sell just one million books (widgets, etc.). You want anyone who wants what you have to be able to buy it. Don't set arbitrary limits. Find a way for everyone who wants what you have to get it. It will enrich you in the process.

9. Don't become a student of products. Become a student of markets. Know your markets better than you know your products. If you fall in love with your product, it will blind you to reality. Fall in love with markets. If there isn't a market, reconsider or drop the product. Use the SRDS, the Standard Rates and Data Service directory to find your buyers (www.srds.com). It's not a cheap resource, but it's vital if you plan to reach a pool of hungry fish.

10. Don't do LMS. "lesser mortal shit" (a Halbertism). Delegate everything except your highest value work. If you run out of highest value work, do the next most valuable work. Don't do $10/hour work or you won't ever reach your highest and best value.

11. Two things will get a person's attention and interest: showmanship, and the reason why. To get the attention of the person you're after, a little theatre will go a long way. Be creative. If you've got 20 centers of influence, don't send a letter. Send a courier. Gain their interest is with a powerful reason why. Why would they, why SHOULD they give you their time and attention? What's the most compelling "reason why" you can give that satisfies their self-interest? If you don't know, ask your buyers.

12. Understand the Triangle of Marketing. #3 is the copy, #2 is the message, and #1 is the audience. Make sure you have the right/best/hungriest/rabid audience, or your message and copy won't ever get seen, heard or read. A mediocre message to a great audience will always do better than a great message to a mediocre audience. Know your audience, hone your message, and don't scrimp on copy. Like an interesting story, good copy gets read.

13. Don't care about what ANYONE thinks. How often do we hesitate and delay because of what others might think? We thwart our success and happiness worrying about what other people think. We don't regret the shots we do take, even when they don't work out. We regret most of the shots we don't take. Do what your heart desires. Don't worry about what others think.

14. Tell your story. A powerful story creates an emotional link. I call this the E-Link. John Carlton, one of the world's highest paid copywriters, says personality is missing in most marketing messages. He suggests we "pinch them in the butt" and tap the passionate sweet spot. Tell a story. Connect it to what the person can DO (results, accomplishments), and how the person will FEEL (the strongest E-Link). What story can/will you tell?

15. Greedy people lead lives that suck. Enough said.

16. Gun to the head thinking can get you out of a jam or tough time. If someone had a gun to your head, and to save your life you had to craft the best message you could, what would you say?

17. There's too much bad news. We can't hear the voices of light. Cats find the sun spots. They seek the patches of light. How can you be a source of light?

18. Speak. "from down below." If you want your cred-ability to soar, don't speak from your mouth; speak from your pelvis. Imagine your entire chest cavity as one big voice box. Speak "from down below". and you will create a stronger, more powerful presence. (Thank you, Burt Dubin for this little known sage advice used by opera singers to get
the most from their precious instrument).

19. You're NOT in the marketing business. You're in the ARITHMETIC business. If your arithmetic doesn't add up, you won't have a business for very long. Start counting.

20. You want to sell your products and services to "addicts" - profound, irrational, passionate, rabid, insane people who buy frequently and spend a lot. That's your IDEAL buyer. Where are they? How can you reach them? What will you say to them?

21. 10,000 hours. that's how long it takes to become really good at something. That's 2,000 hours per year for five years. It can take doctors and other professionals twice that long (10 years), and most self-made millionaires take four times that long (that's right, 20 years is the average time it takes for self-made millionaires to achieve "overnight" success). You can't invest a few hours in something and expect to become an expert. There are many self-proclaimed "pseudo-gurus" who emerge after one or two successes and claim expert status. Experts hone their chops over time. What's your expertise? Hone it, refine it and continuously improve it.

Ten Ways to Save 2 Hours A Day or More!

When you gain 2 hours a day, that is 14 hours a week and a whopping 728 hours a year or 18.2 workweeks!

Take a look at the list below and implement a few - if not all - of them and see how much time you gain this week and how much more you accomplish! (Note: The time saved listed is per day! They are also very conservative estimates.)

1. Turn off the TV. We may as well start at the easy one. The average person watches 3 hours a day. So turn it off for one of those hours. Do something else instead. Read a book. Better yet, start writing YOUR book!
Time saved - One hour.

2. Group your projects together. Do all you email at once or make all your calls at once. Starting and stopping wastes a lot of time.
Time saved - 15 minutes.

3. Don't answer the phone. Let it go to voice mail. Then, at a set time, listen to the voice mail, delete liberally, and write down the info on a pad to call back when it is best for you. Talk to them only about the issue at hand. Time saved - 30 minutes. Another 30 if you count the telemarketers you avoid.

4. Get up 15 minutes earlier. Go to bed 15 minutes later. If your alarm goes off every day at 6 am, make it 5:45. You don't need that much sleep anyway!
Time saved - 30 minutes!

5. Enroll in what Zig Ziglar calls "Automobile University." I have a friend that uses his library card like nobody's business and always has the best cd's with him. And it costs him nothing. He listens to close to ten hours of great material a week. All while in the car.
Time saved - 1 hour.

6. Cut your lunch short. No matter how much you take, shave 15 minutes off of it. Side benefit: You'll lose weight without the dessert!
Time saved - 15 minutes.

7. Hire an assistant. Let him or her do the smaller tasks like answering email, copying, screening calls, and filing.
Time saved - 1 hour.

8. Focus. Different people are distracted by different things. Whatever it is that distracts you, cut it out. Tune it out and lock in like a laser on your work. You will save time and your work will be better!
Time saved - 30 minutes.

9. Shift you work hours to include time when others aren't at the office. Being there alone will help you stay on task and you will be shocked at how much you get done.
Time saved - 15 minutes.

10. Plan. Spend 15 minutes a day planning your day to work on the most important tasks in the most efficient way. You will lose 15 minutes but gain an hour.
Total saved - 45 minutes.

Total if you do them all: 6 hours a day of time saved, improved focus and a dramatic increase in productivity! If you will just implement a few of these - those that work best for you - you will see a dramatic improvement in your time management and productivity - I guarantee it!

Measuring Success

As I have worked with people over the years I have seen an amazing thing. People often get frustrated because they aren't achieving "success." There are lots of possible reasons for this but one reason I have found that sticks out is that many people allow their definition of "Success" to be driven by someone or something else.

Instead, we ought to be looking at our own, skills, opportunities, life situations, etc. to determine what it would mean for us to be a success in our own mind rather than someone else's.

Thus, the key to "Success" is all in the head - our head! We develop our own thinking about what it will mean to become a success.

The frustration comes in when we look at what someone else thinks is a success and try to attain it, only to find it elusive.

For one person, being a success may mean to make $100,000 a year. For another it may be $250,000. Another may not be concerned with the yearly income but be more concerned with a net worth.

Still another may not be motivated by money and may consider himself a success by how many street kids he gets pointed in the right direction and into a productive life.

Now the temptation would be for the person working with street kids to think they aren't a "success" because they don't make much money. The temptation for the person making $100,000 may be to think they aren't a "success" until they make $250,000. And the temptation for the person making $250,000 may very well be to think they aren't a "success" because they aren't helping street kids! And 'round and round' it goes when we are gauging ourselves by another's measure of success.

So my advice is this: Set your own course, and stay on course. Don't measure yourself against any other standard of success. Do what you do best and the rest will take care of itself.

Here is the truth. Being a success is doing your best, not being the best.

When we get to that point, we will experience a lot more joy and a lot less frustration. And that sounds good to me!

Pretend it's five years from now.

Are you still in the marketing game? Are you in the game or out of the game? Are you still at your job or not at your job? Are you burnt out or not burnt out?

Or have you moved on to turning a buck via real estate, vending machines or whatever the hot opportunity of the month flavor is?

What's the difference between those who were doing well online 5 years ago but today are "out of the game." They are doing somethin' else for a living. What's the difference?

I want to point out the 3 "longevity factors" that make a difference.

LONGEVITY FACTOR ONE: The Time For Dollars Trap
You've heard the saying "All that glitters isn't gold." Nothing could be more true online. There are a plethora of gimmicks on the web. You get a new one almost every day on the Internet. The people I personally know who are still in the game have 1 thing in common -- A LIST.

You either have a business that is list-based or transaction-based.

A list-based business builds up value as your list grows. A transaction business means five years from now you're still hustling to turn that seo buck or that ppc buck.

If you have a list, and you cultivate a relationship, five years from now, you have a source of income. You are better off than you were 5 years before. Without a list, 5 years from now, you're still "turning transactions" to
bank some coin.

I said it years ago in Amazing Formula. "The money is in the list."

If you're in a transaction business, that means each day you're trading your time for dollars or money. To make more transactions, you gotta spend time.

The only way to escape that is to have a list and to have products.

That way, you escape the trap of having to trade YOUR time for dollars. The products sold to your list do it for you.

LONGEVITY FACTOR TWO: The Rainbow Trap
You've heard the expression "chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow." That's pretty much what we all do.

But if you're always chasing and never doing, you've fallen into the trap. The fortune is in selling the tickets to go see the rainbow. That's how the dude at the end of the rainbow got his pot of gold -- HE SOLD SOMETHIN!

My friend Jonathan Mizel lives in Maui, Hawaii. And when you're in Maui, there are some gorgeous rainbows. But the price of seein' rainbows isn't cheap!

No one makes any money until someone sells somethin' to someone and someone else buys it. I talking at the end of the day. For example, there'd be no adsense income if someone else wasn't buyin' those clicks.

Funny thing is, even the people who say you can bank some currency without sellin' something have GOT something to sell to YOU to show you how to bank money without selling!

How's THAT for interesting logic!

The people who are in the game and stay in the game have their own exclusive product or service to sell most of the time.

Ask Google. Ask Bill Gates. Ask Yahoo.

You gotta have a product or service to sell. You gotta sell it. And in most cases, you need to have an exclusive on it.

LONGEVITY FACTOR THREE: The Quick Start Trap
People wanna get off to a quick start.

So the desire is to take shortcuts. I won't create my own product. I'll just buy this super duper reprint rights package to 1,000,000 products or whatever. (Not that reprint right packages are bad...it's all about the person's mindset buying them)

Or this method doesn't require a product, a sales letter or anything else. You just watch the video and click the buttons on the software. And money comes in.

What a deal, eh?

Truth is, at the end of the day, no one is makin' any money until someone sells and someone buys.

Simplify your life and skip the quick fix pitches. Stop searching for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbox. Start SELLING rainbows on cards, tickets to SEE the rainbow, rainbow concerts, rainbow hats, ebook on best places to find rainbows. Stories of people who FOUND the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Years ago I said "the money is in the list." Today, I add to that.

The money is in the selling.
The money is in the selling.
The money is in the selling.

Don't believe me? Look at all the people SELLING YOU a way to stack some paper without you having to sell anything to anyone else.

Five years from now, will you be in business or won't you?

Will you have your own list?
Will you have your own exclusive products?
Will you still be hunting the quick fix or will you have laid a foundation for the future?

One of the things I've tried to do since day 1 is to boil out the fluff and turn the complex into the simple and give you simple action steps to do it.

Bottom line: Marketing is about finding demand, that is finding markets for products and services and filling the demand for a profit.

You wanna be in business 5 years from now? You wanna be sittin' by the beach or being able to enjoy freedom?

Then discover the secrets of finding markets and fulfilling wants at a profit.

Folks, at the end of the day, ain't nobody makin' no money 'till somebody sells somethin' to somebody. And if you wanna buy yourself the FREEDOM you want, you gotta have products that earn bux for you, so you don't gotta earn 'em yourself by tradin' time for dollars.
